Biography

Feliks Tabis began playing violin at the age of 7 and became inspired at an early age by jazz violinist Stéphane Grappelli and guitarist Django Reinhardt, who co-founded the ‘Quintette du Hot Club de France’ in Paris in 1934, one of the first all-string acoustic jazz bands.

This style of Jazz was an exciting alternative to the classical style of violin playing that he had grown up with and been taught at school, and another opportunity to explore the possibilities of improvisation with the violin in another genre. He soon began to approach Jazz band leaders performing in local venues to allow him to guest with their bands, and gradually found himself being invited back to play again and on to work with them at weddings and other functions.

Feliks has now been performing across the UK and Europe as a professional musician for many years with some of the top musicians in the country, recently doubling on tenor saxophone to add another dimension to the show, sometimes taking a solo on both instruments on the same tune!
